Training

Whether your interest is to explore shamanism and put it to work in your life or you are answering the call to become a shamanic healer, teacher, ceremonialist, or scholar, we offer a comprehensive set of in-depth courses designed to assist you through this transformation.

We offer four types of training:

  1. An introductory course in shamanism appropriate for those who are new to shamanism or shamanic practices.
  2. Intermediate training, The Medicine Way of Everyday Shamanism, which provides the student with the transformative experience, confidence, and skills to live a vibrant shamanic life even in the midst of the modern world.
  3. Advanced courses, which provide additional skills and practice to prepare the student to more deeply heal themselves, others, and the planet. These are the techniques and skills that shamans use to bring healing into the world.
  4. Apprenticeship, which offers select students the ability to gain direct experience with the many aspects of professional shamanic practice.

More information on all of these options are included below.

If you have prior experience with shamanism and good journey skills, please contact us to see if advanced placement into the intermediate level is appropriate for you.

A downloadable PDF copy of this information is available here.

Intermediate — The Medicine Way of Everyday Shamanism

This 5 weekend, 8 month course contains all of our foundational teachings. The Medicine Way of Everyday Shamanism introduces the 60,000 year-old, global, earth-honoring tradition of shamanic practice to the modern world. You acquire forgotten knowledge, wisdom, and skills, while exploring what it truly means to be human.

During this course, you will discover your soul's purpose, learn powerful healing forms and ceremonies, find inner strength and conviction, and connect with helping spirits.

At the conclusion of this course, the student will have received the 9 Rites of the Munay-Ki and will be initiated as a full mesa carrier. This course prepares the student to live life fully as a shamanic individual as well as preparing them for advanced study.

The Medicine Way of Everyday Shamanism - South

We discover the basics of shamanic divination, building skill with hands-on work. We learn about the Qero shamans, the totems and archetypes, ancestors and helping spirits, and the shaman’s mesa. We begin building our mesas and start the process of transformation.

The Medicine Way of Everyday Shamanism - West
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way South
In the West, we begin the journey of the Luminous Warrior, learning to live our lives authentically and without fear. We honor our past, explore past lives, and integrate the lessons of the past into the present. We discover and work with our shadow selves. We continue to build and work with our mesas.

The Medicine Way of Everyday Shamanism - North

We explore the roles and beliefs that control our lives, removing the disempowering ones and becoming acquainted with our true guiding roles and beliefs. The Medicine Way of Everyday Shamanism - East

We complete our medicine bodies and we come face-to-face with our core beliefs. We heal our hearts and minds and work deeply with our intentions. We enter into the realm co-creation and learn to participate in it. We embrace what works as we shed what holds us back. We learn to make powerful offerings and we complete and fully activate our mesas.

The Medicine Way of Everyday Shamanism - Walking in Balance and Power
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way East
We now possess the tools of the shaman, but what does this mean in the modern world? This is the Master Class in truly living Everyday Shamanism. We learn to take charge of our future, walk the path of the Luminous Warrior, integrate the aspects of the four directions, and live our soul’s purpose with confidence and commitment.

Advanced Study

Our advanced courses go in-depth into topics that form the nucleus of shamanic healing. Advanced training is open to any student who has completed our intermediate coursework or who are full mesa carriers with strong journey skills. Please contact us if you are unsure if you meet the prerequisites for advanced training.

Illumination & Extraction
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way or equivalent
Illumination is the process of diagnosis and the catalyst for healing in energy medicine. We will use Illumination to identify and heal physical, emotional, and energetic traumas. Illumination shines light on imperfections and negative imprints in the Luminous Energy Field, engages powerful, natural methods of healing, and enables the extraction of negative energies.

Soul Retrieval
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way or equivalent
Physical, emotional, or energetic trauma can lead to soul loss. We practice techniques for soul reintegration with an emphasis on creating permanent, lasting, compassionate solutions. We cover methods of identifying soul loss, finding soul parts, negotiating successful reintegrations, and essential after-care.

Death, Dying, and Psychopomp
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way or equivalent
A transformative introduction to death and dying, this weekend prepares the shamanic practitioner to provide support and counseling for those preparing for transition. In our modern Western culture, death is something to be feared. We dispel this myth and approach end-of-life issues with courage and openness. We explore issues of family, other traditions, and societal norms. We delve into pyschopomp and how to effectively transition the earthbound out of this realm. Lastly, we look into our own views and roles around death and make certain we are properly prepared for our own eventual transition.

Ceremony & Ritual
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way or equivalent
Since the first shaman walked the surface of the Earth Mother, shamans have helped people understand, recognize, and participate in spiritual life through ceremony. We explore and experience ceremonies for Birth, Marriage, Handfasting, Civil Unions, and Death. We engage in rituals to celebrate celestial events and learn of the many variations of the despacho and how, and when, to use them. We learn ceremonies and techniques for working with the spirits of the land to rectify issues caused by thoughtless human habitation.

Plant Medicine
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way or equivalent
In this weekend introduction to the world of plant medicine and plant spirits, we investigate the life of plants on Mother Earth, how to work with them, and how to communicate with them. We shamanically work with and discuss plants, plant essences, and plant spirit medicine. We learn about and honor ancient traditions, medicinal and shamanic uses, and tree wisdom, as well as share techniques for discovering new uses for medicinal plants and plant spirits.

Advanced Divination
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way or equivalent
Divination is the practice of discovering insight and knowledge about the threads that weave the past, present, and future together. Shamans use both mechanical tools — cards, pendula, muscle tests, and found objects — in addition to working with helping spirits in non-ordinary reality. We practice the fundamentals, then go to work expanding our toolkit to include extensive work exploring the past and the present, then learning how to use that wisdom to navigate the balance of free-will and future probabilities. Divination is not just a skill, but an art that improves with practice.

Ancestors & Ancestral Healing
2 Days
Prerequisite: Medicine Way or equivalent
Have you noticed how issues tend to run in families? We blame genes and family culture, but in a shamanic sense, family issues will follow us across genrations until resolved. Our ancestors can be our biggest asset in life, bringing memory and wisdom from the past to the present, but they can also be the cause of grief, pain, and consistent struggle as their unresolved issues come forward into our lives. We learn and practice techniques for healing the past so our ancestral energies can appropriately work for our benefit and we develop experience working with our helpful ancestral spirits for the benefit of our present lives.

Apprenticeship

Students who have completed advanced coursework with us may apply for an apprenticeship. Apprentices gain valuable, hands-on experience with many or all of the aspects of professional shamanic practice. Apprenticeships are appropriate for students who are considering a shamanic healing or training practice of their own.

Apprenticeship
Prerequisite: Complete all advanced courses with us
Apprenticeships are for one year and may be renewed for an additional year by mutual agreement. Apprentices can expect to be engaged in many or all of these activities: shamanic healing, pastoral counseling, clearing buildings & land, working fairs & festivals, performing ceremonies & rituals, developing coursework for shamanic education, teaching in the classroom and online, research & scholarship, publishing and blogging, social media & public presence, and shamanic business management.
